Sources on the ground report that the Arakan Army (AA) has captured over 100 soldiers of the Myanmar military junta along with weapons in an offensive aimed at seizing Maungdaw town.
The Myanmar junta troops and Muslim armed men trained by the Myanmar junta along with weapons, were reportedly captured at several locations including the Ma Kyee Chaung Border Guard Station near the Bay of Bengal coast, the Maung Ni Village Outpost, and the Ka Nyin Chaung Economic Zone outposts.
It has been announced that the Arakan Army (AA) successfully attacked and occupied the Ma Kyee Chaung Border Guard Station near Maungdaw Township and the Maung Ni Village Outpost at 9:04 am on July 11.
“Many of them were captured from the Ma Kyee Chaung camp and the Maung Ni village outpost, according to a source on the ground speaking to the Border News Agency. The source also mentioned the presence of armed Muslim men among those taken into custody.”
Accompanied by photographic evidence, the Arakan Army (AA) reported that they seized bodies of Myanmar junta members, as well as weapons, ammunition, and military equipment from the Ma Kyee Chaung Border Guard Station. Furthermore, the AA captured several prisoners of war.
It has been reported that the Ma Kyee Chaung camp housed members of the Myanmar junta’s No. 263 Infantry Regiment, stationed in Sittwe, along with troops who had escaped from other military camps and border guard police outposts.
Additionally, around 30 members of the Myanmar junta were observed fleeing to the Bangladesh side aboard some military boats belonging to the junta.
“Most of the Myanmar junta members either perished in the battle of Maungdaw or were apprehended,” a resident of Maungdaw informed the Border News Agency. “Some managed to escape to Bangladesh.”
In Maungdaw Township, the last remaining stronghold of the Myanmar junta, the No. 5 Border Guard Police Battalion based in Myo Thu Gyi is under attack by the Arakan Army. Reports suggest that the Myanmar junta and its allies are attempting to resist by establishing military bases in downtown Maungdaw.
Some sources on the ground claim that nearly 3,000 members of the Myanmar junta were captured by the Arakan Army (AA) during the fighting in Maungdaw Township, although the Border News Agency has not yet independently confirmed this.
Throughout Maungdaw Township, members of the Myanmar junta and Muslim armed forces trained by them resisted using a force of over ten thousand, but the Arakan Army (AA) has also announced that they are encircling and launching an offensive to completely capture Maungdaw town.
