Three Rakhine People Arrested by Armed Muslim Militants in Maungdaw
Maungdaw, August 4.
On August 3, around 11 a.m., armed Muslim militants raided a house in Dat village in Maungdaw and arrested three Rakhine individuals who were staying there, according to local sources in Maungdaw.
The three individuals are from Maungdaw city: one from Bawmhu village and two from Sanpya village. All three were reportedly taking refuge in Dat village due to fears for their safety in their own communities. The arrested individuals are identified as Ching Thar, 17, and Than Win Soe, 30, from Sanpya village, and another from Bawmhu village.
According to residents of Maungdaw city, armed militants identifying as Rohingya Muslims have been continuously entering Hindu and Rakhine communities, forcibly breaking into homes, and abducting people. "The armed groups enter our neighborhoods daily. If they catch anyone, they take them away. Every day we are forced to run away. At night, we cannot even sleep because we have to be on the run. They have blocked all escape routes and laid landmines, which makes it even more terrifying," said one person stranded in Maungdaw city to Border News Agency.
In Maungdaw city, Hindu and Rakhine residents are reportedly being daily abducted, killed, and their bodies disposed of by Rohingya militants. Hindu women are subjected to extreme violence, including killings, while Rakhine women face sexual violence, as confirmed by witnesses.
Nearly 200 Rakhine people have been abducted by Rohingya militants, with around 50 of them reportedly killed, according to reports. "They enter every neighborhood every day. They arrest anyone they find. In the past two weeks alone, more than fifty people have been taken. Many of my friends, acquaintances, and neighbors have been arrested. Some have been killed. Even children are being taken," another resident of Maungdaw city told Border News Agency.
The Rohingya militants are said to be holding the captured Rakhine people in two schools in Maungdaw city and killing them. The bodies are reportedly being transported in trucks and dumped near the river, according to sources.
Additionally, it is reported that Rohingya militants, numbering up to 5,000, are working in coordination with the military, committing acts of violence, including arrests and killings of local Rakhine and Hindu people. They have set up bases in various parts of Maungdaw and continue to commit violence and abductions across the region.
